How to debrand your phone Tutorial by kr8ter Preview

Here is a tutorial to help you debrand your phone, so you can enjoy all of your phone’s features and remove the operator branding.

The things you will need are:

Part 1: Creating the CDA XML file

  1. 1) Run the Ultimate CDA Generator. If the program gives an error then you will need to have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or higher installed on your computer
  2. 2) Select your phone’s model by clicking the phone icon
  3. 3) Now select a region by clicking on the region icon (Select a generic one, if you would like to debrand)
  4. 4) Click the save icon, and select where you would like to save the “customize_upgrade.xml” file to

Part 2: Uploading the file onto your phone

  1. 1) Turn off your phone and take the battery out and then put it back in
  2. 2) Run the A2Uploader
  3. 3) Click the “FileSystem Tool” button
  4. 4) Hold the “C” button and connect the USB cable. If this doesn’t work try holding buttons “2″ and “5″ together, instead of “C”
  5. 5) Now goto “/tpa/preset/custom”
  6. 6) Drag and drop the file “customize_upgrade.xml” onto the right panel of A2Uploader
  7. 7) Now click “Shutdown FS Manager” button
  8. 8) Disconnect the USB cable and turn on your phone
  9. 9) A “Please Wait” prompt will appear on your phone, wait until this disappears and turn off your phone

Part 3: Debranding your phone

  1. 1) Run the Sony Ericsson Update Service
  2. 2) Follow the instructions

If everything went smoothly, enjoy your debranded phone

That concludes the tutorial, if you get any problems or if the tutorial doesn’t work, then just post a comment. Thanks

thank you kr8ter. what is flash lite 3.0 ? how to install those flash themes which do not have associated .swf files

    • kr8ter says:

Hi prakash, flash lite 3.0 is the latest version of the Adobe Flash technology used to make flash themes and menus. Phones that have flash lite 3.0 are elm, aino, yari, etc, etc. If a flash theme doesn’t have an associated flash file, then simply send the theme to your phone via bluetooth or plug the cable into your phone and then select “Mass Storage” and put the theme onto your phone.

hey……… why we should debrand phones??
what are the issues or advantages of debranding..?
at least i don’t know what is the meaning of debranding…
i appreciate if you can tell me something about this.

    • kr8ter says:

Hi hrj90, people debrand their phones as sometimes the network operators disable flash menus and they add all their own stuff, which some people hate. Debranding, in some cases may make the phone feel faster and may also add features that were previously taken out.

    Hi!
On which way I can remove Walk mate from screen on my Elm and make possible to change shortcut on UP key?
    Thanks! :)

    • kr8ter says:

Hi Gordan, I don’t have an Elm, but i did a search and google and found that the walkmate can be removed by doing this.
you have to click “up arrow” and then choose this button in top left corner then just “hide” and walk mate eco is disabled

Regarding, the UP key, I’m sure that could changed by going to settings and looking for shortcut keys.

    Hey Folks,

I can’t get my w995a to respond when i plug the cable in while pressing the c button or the 2&5 buttons. the cable is ok as it connects to the pc when the phone is on, just not when i press those buttons – any ideas?

    Thanks

    • kr8ter says:

Hi Ade-j, have you installed the Sony Ericsson Update Service, as that contains the necessary drivers. Also, try connecting your phone to the Sony Ericsson Update Service, if it works, then it should work with A2Uploader.

  9. Ade-j says:

thanks – the drivers from the SEUS worked. I was running with the drivers from PC Companion which definitely DON’T. Thanks again kr8ter
